Arab killers moved into ambush position early this morning, and awaited an Israel vehicle along the Trans-Judea highway which connects Hevron and the Judean hills to the southern coastal plain. Five people from two Jewish families left their homes in Adura heading for Kiryat Gat, near Ashkelon. At about 7:25, the Arabs opened fire on the car and fled to the nearby PA autonomous area.
One mother was struck in the chest and is listed in moderate condition according to officials in the trauma unit of Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem. Her child is being treated for shock. A 2-year-old baby from the second family is listed in light condition with shrapnel wounds to the leg. The baby was released from the hospital in the afternoon.
Adura is part of the Hevron Hills Regional Council. Council spokesperson Malki Zonnenfeld responded to a reporter who asked if Israel needs to press Arafat harder to combat terror: \"Arafat wants to combat terrorism? He\'s just lacking a little a push? He\'s not a child in kindergarten who needs to be told what to do! He knows exactly what he is doing. He wants to achieve his political and territorial aims through terrorism. We must understand this and cease engaging in dialogue with him. Enough of \'Maybe this formula will work; maybe this new approach.\' It\'s over. He is not a partner, and he cannot be trusted. We must finish off the PLO and reveal their true intentions.\"
