Accusations by GSS-agent provocateur Avishai Raviv have finally been permitted for publication. Raviv claims that others in the General Security Service knew of the danger to the late Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin presented by Yigal Amir - yet protection around him was not reinforced. Raviv has been indicted for not preventing the murder of Rabin, and says that other GSS agents must be tried as well. Margalit Har-Shefi, a friend of Amir who heard him say that Rabin should be killed, is scheduled to begin a nine-month prison sentence in two weeks for not preventing the crime. Raviv\'s trial has been delayed several times, but he is aware that Har-Shefi\'s conviction on the same charge of not preventing the murder does not bode well for him.
Har-Shefi studied and participated in anti-Oslo protests together with Yigal Amir between 1993 and 1995, and was convicted after it was ascertained that Amir told her that he had planned to kill the Prime Minister on two occasions. The Supreme Court ruled that Margalit was therefore aware that he was planning to kill Rabin; she has consistently claimed that if she would have suspected that he was planning to commit the crime, she would have done everything possible to stop him.
Grassroots organizations such as Women in Green are asking President Moshe Katzav to pardon her, noting that if many GSS agents did not take seriously Yigal Amir\'s threats, it is not reasonable to hold Har-Shefi accountable for doing the same. They are asking sympathizers to fax their feelings to the President, at (972-2) 561-1033. Har-Shefi\'s supporters are also pointing overseas to the school murder in California two days ago. There, too, they say, people who heard their classmate Andy Williams say he would murder fellow students did not notify the authorities - yet they are not being charged with \"failure to prevent the crime.\"
