On the morning of November 15, 2003, two car bombs were detonated near two synagogues in Istanbul. 23 people were killed, including six Jews, and more than 300 people were injured. The explosion occurred while hundreds of worshippers were attending services at the “Neve Shalom” synagogue. Nadim, who provided security services to the worshippers on a volunteer basis, was seriously wounded in the blast.

Shortly after the attack, the chairman of the Jewish Agency, Sallai Meridor visited Mizrachi, who is 20 years old, and invited him to Israel for medical treatments.

Mizrachi recently made the decision to relocate to the Jewish State. He, along with scores of other immigrants from South America, France and the former Soviet Union who immigrated at the same time, will spend their first months studying Hebrew at the Jewish Agency’s “Kalanit” absorption center in Ashkelon.

They have joined 40 other olim (immigrants) already at the absorption center studying Hebrew and preparing to continue their higher education (the Jewish Agency pays for an academic degree for new immigrants).
