Eleven bands, comprised mainly of overseas students studying in Israeli yeshivot, participated in the event. Kedma, a student social action group with branches in Israel and North American campuses hosted the event at Binyanei HaUma, Israel's international convention center. Yeshiva University and UJA-Federation co-sponsored the contest, which was attended by nearly 800 people.
Participating yeshiva bands hailed from Shaalvim, Reishit, Torat Shraga, Ohr Yerushalayim, Ner Yaakov, Har Etzion, Derech Etz Chaim, Machon Lev, Tiferet Yerushalayim, and Hakotel. First prize was won by the band from Midrash Shmuel, a yeshiva in the Rechavia neighborhood of Jerusalem. The band is run and directed by Yudi Kaufman and David Landesman, and their winning songs were Dov Shurin's Zochreini Na, and their own Rabot Mach'shavot. In recognition of their efforts, they will receive four hours of recording time in Creative Audio Studios in Jerusalem.
The men's-only event, with mostly Hassidic/rock-oriented music with Hebrew and English lyrics, was run almost solely by first- and second-year yeshiva student volunteers.
