An IDF checkpoint in the Jordan Valley was the scene of a premature car bomb detonation this morning. Soldiers stationed at the checkpoint, near the agricultural communities of Hamra and Beka’ot in the Jordan Valley, stopped a suspicious vehicle for a routine inspection. After being detained for some time, the driver of the car detonated explosives he had with him, killing himself and lightly injuring an IDF soldier. IDF spokesmen said that the successful work of the soldiers at the checkpoint most likely prevented a serious car bomb attack inside an Israeli city.

In another attack, on the Jericho bypass road in the Jordan Valley area, an army jeep was targeted by terrorist gunfire near the Allenby Bridge on Tuesday night. There were no injuries. Soldiers stopped their jeep and returned fire. An Israeli Arab motorist ran into the parked jeep. The driver was lightly wounded and transported to a local hospital. In retaliation, the IDF fired five anti-tank missiles into a PA checkpoint near Jericho. The target was destroyed.

Israeli forces also destroyed several Palestinian para-military and Force 17 militia headquarters in the PLO-controlled town of Salfit, bordering the city of Ariel. Israeli attack helicopters carried out the mission in retaliation for the shooting death of an Israeli, Zohar Shurgi, on the Trans-Samaria Highway between Tapuach Junction and Ariel.

Also in Samaria, terrorist forces detonated a roadside bomb against a Border Police patrol at the Chomesh Junction in northern Samaria on Tuesday night. There were no injuries.

Meanwhile, in Hevron, the IDF position at Admat Yishai came under terrorist gunfire close to midnight. There were no injuries.

On Israel’s southern Mediterranean coast, four mortar rockets were launched against the Jewish town of Netzer Hazani. Three of the rockets exploded inside the community but there were no injuries. The fourth rocket failed to detonate.

IDF soldiers stationed in the Rafiach area near the Egyptian border were attacked with automatic gunfire and grenades on Tuesday night. There were no injuries and soldiers returned fire. Other IDF operations along the Egyptian border now include the digging of a long trench, intended to foil Arab smuggling of weapons from Egypt into the areas under Palestinian Authority jurisdiction.
