"If it comes to a situation in which the government of Israel gives up on me, I will give up on it,” said Avi Farhan, an Elei Sinai resident who was thrown out of Yamit after Israel handed over the Sinai Peninsula area to Egypt in 1982.

Farhan is a colonel in the Army reserves but explained that even his military rank and the flag are not the worth the price of being evicted again. At least two other families in his community have stated they also would stay.

"We will also ask the United Nations to recognize us [refugees] so that the state won't have any feelings of guilt or security responsibility for me. I have no problem with living as a minority in a Palestinian state,” Farhan added.

He told his plans to Knesset members who visited Jewish communities in Gaza and who are on the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee which is studying the government proposal to evict 8,000 Jews in 25 communities in Gaza and northern Samaria and transfer the area to Arabs.
