IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Moshe Yaalon met this morning with representatives of the Gaza Coast Regional Council, and explained his decision to call off all offensive activity in the region – despite the ongoing shelling attacks.
Local spokesman Eran Sternberg reported afterwards, "It was rather a banal meeting; he said his lines, and we said ours... He said that the IDF will continue to remain responsible for the 'big picture' of security in the area, and we told him that we have already been through this, and that no one would ever have considered allowing the Palestinian Authority police to be responsible for the safety of Sderot..."
In other Jewish Gaza news, parts of the Tefillin Beit El factory have relocated to Netzarim. The company has rented out an area with three caravans (mobile homes without wheels), and part of its manufacturing process will take place there – mainly of its original Tfidanit plastic containers and Kufsahod tefillin boxes. Two families have moved from Beit El to Netzarim, and other workers have joined the move as well, in an effort to fortify Netzarim during this difficult period.
"We believe that there will not be a withdrawal," a company director who is moving to Netzarm told Arutz-7 earlier this month, "but we also believe that we can't just sit back and do nothing. It's not that we have to do something vis-a-vis other people or the government, but vis-a-vis G-d; we have to show that we love His Land and that we are willing to sacrifice for it. Therefore, even though we are a large family, we decided to make this move."
Asked how he would react if the disengagement is actually implemented, he said, "Right now we are engaged only in doing what we have to do. I'm thinking only of how to build and how to unify – unifying the Nation of Israel, and the Land of Israel, and the Torah of Israel. 'What will be in the future' is truly something that does not occupy me."
