Arbiv, a resident of the northern Gaza community of Nisanit, was critically injured by a mortar shell while working at the Erez Industrial Zone. He died of his injuries in Be’er Sheva’s Soroka Medical Center this morning, and was to be buried later today in the new Ashkelon cemetery.



Barrages of mortar shells and Kassam rockets have pounded Jewish communities on both sides of Israel’s pre-1967 southern border continuously in recent weeks - and today was no different. Over a dozen such attacks targeted Jewish communities in Gaza this morning, causing no injuries. In Sderot, a Kassam rocket attack in a residential neighborhood sent one woman to the hospital for treatment for trauma, and damaged a number of buildings and cars.



A number of mortar shells fell near a synagogue packed with worshippers in Netzer Hazani, blowing out the windows as worshippers attended morning prayer services for the new Jewish month of Shvat. Miraculously, no one was injured. Another shell hit a home in Morag; no one in the house was hurt.



Despite the continuing bombardments, Gush Katif spokesman Eran Sternberg said that he has "heard and seen" that the army has received special orders not to fire at terrorists unless a direct danger is foreseen. An army spokesman said in response that no orders have been given by the Chief of Staff not to fire at terrorists.



A shoulder-launched rocket was fired at the Gush Katif community of N’vei Dekalim Monday night. The rocket lodged into the community’s perimeter fence and there were no injuries.
