Feiglin, leader of the Jewish Leadership faction in the Likud party, also told Arutz-7 Thursday night that the cursing and throwing of stones at defense forces at the Givat Lehavah (previously known as Givat Shalhevet) community earlier this week was wrong. "I am against cursing and hitting," he said, but he added that the residents were reacting to a provocation by the government.
People should "defend themselves with their bare hands against organized violence, but weapons are out of the question," Feiglin wrote in an appeal to opponents of the government plan to destroy 25 Jewish communities and withdraw all Israeli forces from the areas, leaving them under total Arab control.
Feiglin added, "Shooting is not part of the objective of preserving the land. If the left wing plants provocateurs to shoot at us... we will find shelter and not shoot back." He said that if protestors follow his guidelines, they will ruin the objective of "the extreme left which wants to ignite a civil war."
The leader of the former This is Our Land group also said he is pessimistic about the chances that Likud Knesset members opposing the government plan will stand up for their beliefs and topple the government by voting against the plan.
"I believe the communities (slated for destruction) will remain, but they will not be saved by the political system. There were 21 Likud MKs against the plan but Bibi (Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu) proved he is not a leader." Feiglin was referring to Netanyahu's failure to carry out his threat to vote against the plan on its initial reading in the Knesset.
The government plan will fail "when the country sees the massive resistance," he told Arutz-7. The public leads the politicians, Feiglin explained, and "the political system follows what is happening out in the field."
