Arabs positioned on Shalhevet Hill in Hevron - with a commanding view of the Avraham Avinu neighborhood - rained sporadic massive gunfire on the Jewish homes below from Friday night at 11:45 PM, until Sunday morning at 2:00 AM. Israeli forces returned fire.

On Saturday, the gunfire interrupted a festive meal of over one hundred people who were celebrating the birth of Renena Nechama Pass, born to Yitzhak and Oriya Pass just over a week ago. The Pass\' first daughter, Shalhevet, was killed by an Arab sniper on March 26, 2000, when she was ten months old. Soldiers quickly moved a group of children who were playing in the street out of the line of fire; however, a Jewish woman was lightly injured in the leg and was treated on the scene. Tanks were ordered to fire on Givat Shalhevet in the early Sunday morning.
