The most famous cases involve Guy Hever, a soldier who was last seen in the Golan not far from the Syrian border in August 1997, and then-18-year-old Donna Benet of Tiberias, who was last seen in August 2003 after leaving the restaurant in which she worked as a waitress.

The Northern District Police announced that some progress had been made of late in the investigation of the two cases. A special investigative team has been formed to look into all the recent disappearances in the area, and locations that have never before been searched will now come under close scrutiny. In addition, robots will be used to search areas infested with Syrian mines from before the Six Day War in 1967.

Other disappearances in the north over the past several years were those of Ira Gurevitch and a female Czech tourist, who disappeared separately under unknown circumstances.
