Terrorists fired two anti-tank rockets at a day-care center in the northern Gaza Jewish community of Nissanit this morning (Wednesday). No children were injured, though two were treated for shock. Residents of Nissanit are demanding that the IDF demolish the buildings from which the projectiles were fired.
Also this morning, two shells were fired at the Slav/Pe’at Sadeh hothouses in Gush Katif. No injuries were reported. Later in the day, Palestinian terrorists fired two mortar shells into N'vei Dekalim, causing some damage to a home.
Last night, a Kassam rocket landed in N'vei Dekalim, and a mortar shell landed in an open area of the community of Kfar Aza, on the pre-'67 side of Israel. No injuries were reported.
A total of over 4,850 shells and rockets have fallen on the Jewish communities of Gaza since the outset of the Oslo War in October, 2001.
Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz, on a visit to N'vei Dekalim Tuesday, was asked why the IDF does not do more to prevent the daily firing of shells and rockets against the Jewish towns. "There are no restrictions on the IDF's actions against the firing of mortar shells," Mofaz insisted.
The Defense Minister was paying a condolence visit to the Lutati family, whose 21-year-old son Yisrael was killed, along with fellow soldiers Tal Berdugo and Nir Sami, in an Arab attack on their IDF position in Morag just before Yom Kippur. Mofaz declined to address the dozens of Gush Katif residents who stood across the street waiting to speak with him.
In other Palestinian terror attempts, an Arab male armed with a knife was detected last night near Otniel, in the Southern Hevron Hills. Apprehended by security forces in the area, he admitted he was planning to murder Jews.
Overnight, IDF troops arrested five PA residents suspected of terrorist activities. The five were taken in the Arab village of Zayid, northeast of Ramallah. Three arrests were also made in Bituniya and Hevron. They are wanted by security forces and have been turned over to the GSS.
