Navy officials also have ordered patrol boats in the port not to use megaphones in order not to scare tourists into thinking there is a terrorist attack. The move is similar to an Israeli Air Force decision several years ago to consider tourists and not break the sound barrier in the area of Jerusalem and other tourist centers.

Israel’s Navy has several boats at its base in Eilat, a major tourist center where new hotels and tourists attractions have brought tourists close to the base. Navy sources reported the move to silence the sirens was made on its own without a request from the city of Eilat, which welcomed the announcement.
