Despite falling Arab mortar shells before and after the performances, thousands arrived last night in Gush Katif, along Israel\'s southern Mediterranean coast, for the region\'s annual music festival. Local Youth Center Director Naomi Eldar said that the embattled residents of Gush Katif were greatly encouraged by the turnout. \"This is more than could have been expected under the circumstances. I think any city in Israel would be proud to see a celebration like this,” she said. Singers Yehoram Gaon, Hayim Dovid and the IDF Rabbinical Corps band provided the entertainment. Gaza IDF commander Brig.-Gen. Yair Naveh received a certificate of appreciation from the community for his work on their behalf, as he ends his tour of duty in the area.
