Deans of Hesder yeshivas and pre-military Torah academies (whose students combine religious studies with military service) met in Ramat Gan today to discuss the integration of women in IDF combat units alongside religious soldiers. The Rabbis held the conference after Chief of Staff Lieut.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz failed to address the issues faced by religious soldiers under the new induction policy, as he had promised. Rabbi Daniel Tropper of Gesher, an organization working for religious-secular dialogue, expressed his concern to Arutz-7 listeners that the new policy will lead to an army divided along religious lines, with separate platoons for religious soldiers. Until the issue is resolved, the academy and yeshiva deans discussed postponing the induction of new students into the army.

On the same issue, President Moshe Katzav met today with Lieut.-Gen. Mofaz. Boaz Katzav, the President’s son, enlisted in the army recently after completing a year in the pre-military Torah academy in Eli, 40 minutes north of Jerusalem.
