The incident occurred at an IDF checkpoint near Shechem, in the Shomron, at approximately 7:30 this morning. It was later learned that the terrorists had intended to attack not only Jews, but also Arabs they suspected of cooperating with the Israelis.

Last night at 7 PM, Arab terrorists in PA-controlled Gaza bombarded N'vei Dekalim – the largest Jewish community in Gush Katif – with five mortar shells. The shells all exploded in the town, but caused no damage or harm. Approximately two hours later, another round landed in nearby Moshav Gadid; two mortar shells and a Kassam rocket landed in the town, once again harmlessly. The Katif.net website, reporting on the news, declared, "Thank G-d, no one was hurt. The new IDF commander, Brig.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi, has apparently not had time to get organized with his forces. We hope he will give the appropriate orders to deal with and repress the unending bombardments on our towns."
