Several approaches were proposed in a special meeting last week in N'vei Dekalim in which over 300 threatened residents and grassroots leaders took part. One thing they all agreed upon: The theme "We have love, and it will win," which appears on posters, bumper stickers and banners all over the country, is no longer sufficient.
"We need more approaches - unity and not uniformity," said one of the organizers. "When you go to war, you have to deploy on all the different fronts and with all the armies. Everyone has to find the square in which he fits. Whatever was done until now was great, and now we want to do more."
Noam Livnat, who has initiated the campaign of collecting signatures of reserve soldiers who will refuse orders to evict Jews from their homes, proposed, "We have to bring people to live in these areas - now is the time."
Rabbi Gadi Ben-Zimra, principle of a girls' high school in Maaleh Levonah, said, "We must work on each individual Knesset Member. We must also enlist our schools in the struggle. It's time to realize that we are allowed to say what we want: the banishment of Arabs from the Land of Israel. If they're talking about the transfer of Jews, then we can talk about the transfer of Arabs." His words were greeted with applause.
Moshe Leshem of "Gamla Shall Not Fall Again" said that the struggle can be waged in different ways at the same time, with no fear that they will work at cross-purposes.
Nadia Matar of Women in Green said, "We have been working in first gear until now, and now we have to change to second and third. Even if the street is one-way, and even if there is a bulldozer bearing down upon us, we won't get off the road! We're all together, and Gush Katif is not alone!"
Former MK Elyakim HaEtzni (Techiya) of Kiryat Arba said, "We must first of all make sure that there is no civil war, and make sure there is no violence – but there is room to step up the struggle." He emphasized that we must make it clear to the United States that though Sharon might want to give away land, "he simply can't do it."
The residents emphasized that as they fight against the disengagement, they must also continue to demand protection from and a military response to the incessant mortar shelling and Kassam rockets on the Jewish communities.
