News of the seminar was reported in an internal journal of an organization defined as "Messianic Jewish." The group sponsored a trip of Jewish students who "take the initiative and travel to Poland," as described in the literature. The students visited important Jewish sites such as Auschwitz, Birkenau, Maidanek, the site of the Warsaw Ghetto, the old Jewish neighborhood of Krakow, and even the "Chachmei Lublin" Yeshiva. As the Jews were taken to visit these sites, missionary elements were introduced into the schedule, Yad L'Achim reports.
"A meeting was held between the students and Polish believers in Warsaw and Auschwitz," the Messianic journal writes. "Some of the lectures given to the students were held in the only Baptist seminar in Poland. The lectures dealt with 'Jewish Viewpoints on the New Testament.'"
Rabbi Shalom Dov Lifshitz, head of Yad L'Achim, described it as "chutzpah" [utter nerve]. "To lead Jewish students into the heart of the regions of murder, and right there to stuff their heads with destructive missionary propaganda – this is exactly how the missionaries work," he said. "These missionaries went specifically there to learn [about] those who wished to destroy the Jewish nation," the rabbi added.
Yad L'Achim says it is concerned over the fact that the missionaries plan to schedule more such trips for Jewish students, with the accompanying missionary "extras."
