The children of the Religious Kibbutz Movement spent the last two weeks renewing their social ties with some old friends - physically and mentally impaired children of the Ilan and Yated institutions. For the 15th year in a row, the kibbutz children ran a day camp for their friends, who they have come to know over the years and who require constant accompaniment and help. Some 20-30 high school students and their youth counselors from each kibbutz divide themselves into groups of four for each of their \"charges;\" two students spend the morning and afternoon with him or her, and are then spelled by their other two colleagues for the late afternoon and evening.
The children spent days of fun at the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), the Manara cable car (in the northern Galilee), amusement parks, and the like. Following the example of the Religious Kibbutzim, other groups and towns - such as the Shomron community of Kedumim and the Kibbutz Movement - have also begun volunteering to run similar camps.
