Israel gave permission to a team of Tunisian doctors to fly to Ramallah Saturday night to treat the ailing Yassar Arafat. They entered the Mukata compound where Arafat has been holed up for over 2 ½ years.
Arafat has been suffering from gallstones, intestinal infection, high fever and vomiting.
Arafat’s health has been on the decline several times recently; he also suffers from Parkinson’s disease. Although his aides deny he is seriously ill, the emergency call indicates that he is suffering from more than a common flu. According to some reports, Arafat will have to fly abroad for surgery.
His latest decline in health began two weeks ago and culminated on Friday, when he was unable to finish the special prayers for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and was unable to receive visitors.
Egyptian doctors reportedly already have been at Arafat’s side since last week.
