Jews in New York gathered yesterday to memorialize the recent and not-so-recent victims of Arab/Moslem terrorism, and to show support for the Jews of Gush Katif, Judea and Samaria. Outside the Israeli Consulate in Manhattan, Rabbi Avi Weiss, national president of Amcha, addressed a crowd singing songs, chanting Psalms and holding photos of the 1,000-plus Israelis murdered in the past four years, and said,
"We turn to our colleagues in the American Muslim community, waiting to hear voices of condemnation... No matter who claims responsibility for the attacks, all these groups are the same - Hizbullah, al-Aqsa, al-Qaeda, Hamas. But whatever one's political claim, absolutely nothing justifies terror [and] purposeful murder of children, boys and girls, men and women."
In solidarity with the Israelis who will be holding 100 rallies on behalf of Gush Katif this week, another crowd gathered outside the United Nations, and cried, "Let us boldly affirm the exclusive Jewish claim to all of the Land of Israel! Stop the expulsion of Jews from our land!" Sponsoring organizations for the rallies included AFSI, Amcha-CJC, Vaad HaKohol of Crown Heights, BelieversoftheBible.org, and more.
