As Israel's army forces continue their anti-Kassam offensive known as Days of Penitence, Hamas Gaza spokesman Mahmoud A-Zahar said yesterday that even after Israel withdraws from Gaza, "there will be no ceasefire." Speaking with Israel's Army Radio, A-Zahar said, "We will agree to stop our attacks only when Israel agrees to withdraw from all the conquered territories and releases all the prisoners."
A-Zahar is not alone. One of the political leaders of Hamas in Gaza, Sa'id Siam, said that Hamas has no plans to stop firing deadly Kassam rockets at Israel until Israel "stops its criminal acts against the unarmed Palestinian population."
Israel has sent large forces into northern Gaza in an attempt to stop the incessant rocket attacks on Sderot and the western Negev. A recent Hamas Kassam rocket attack killed two people in Israel's western Negev city of Sderot, including 4-year-old Afik Zahavi on his way to nursery school. Last week, a Kassam rocket fired from northern PA-controlled Gaza slammed into a narrow Sderot street, killing two cousins - Dorit Aniso, 2, and Yuval Abebeh, 4. Two Kassams were fired at the town yesterday morning as well, causing no damage.
