Likud MK Roni Bar'on underwent a minor "re-awakening" during his visit in Gush Katif yesterday. Known as a supporter of Prime Minister Sharon's unilateral disengagement/expulsion plan, he now says he would like to reconsider.

Bar'on was accompanied on his visit, Katif.net reports, by members of the Diplomatic Desk of the Gush Katif Residents Committee. The visit began with a tour from the observation point atop the tall tower in the southern community of Morag, overlooking hostile Khan Yunis. The residents provided him with a comprehensive explanation of the strategic importance of the area. MK Bar'on and escorts then toured in the large agricultural nurseries of Atzmona and N'vei Dekalim.

Lunch was held in the Sukkah of the Midreshet HaDarom Seminar, together with several local residents. The latter presented their position that the plan in question will have catastrophic consequences and has no advantages. The Knesset Member listened attentively, adding that he has been aware of the area's importance ever since he fought there in the Six Day War.

As he was about to leave, MK Bar'on made an open admission: "I don't know if my support for the Prime Minister's plan is the right thing to do. I would like to re-think the issue and formulate a position." He invited the Diplomatic Desk members to meet with him again two weeks from now.
