In the second fatal terrorist attack this week, terrorists have killed another Jewish teenager. A family that resides in Givat Ze’ev, located just north of Jerusalem, was traveling home from the capital when shots rang out from a passing truck on the road from the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem to Givat Ze’ev, also known as the Jerusalem – Modi’in road.
The following report is based on information following a preliminary investigation at the scene of the attack.
The teenager traveling with his family in the vehicle heading home was struck in the head and/or back and was gravely wounded. Ambulances were dispatched from nearby Givat Ze’ev and a paramedic advanced life support unit was sent from Jerusalem. Despite resuscitation efforts by paramedics, the young victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
On Tuesday, 18-year-old Uri (Yuri) Gushtzin, a resident of northern Jerusalem, was killed by terrorists that shot and stabbed him. The body of the teen was recovered in the Ramallah area.
Police and army investigators are studying the scene of the latest fatal attack while a manhunt for the terrorists’ vehicle is underway. It has been learned that the terrorists in the truck fired at children in the nearby community of Givon not long before the fatal attack but the gunfire missed the intended targets.
Quoting an anonymous senior PA security official, Ynet reported that the PA is pointing the finger of blame for this attack at “settlers,” Jewish residents of Yesha (Judea, Samaria & Gaza). The unnamed source reported that “settlers” have been responsible for many recent attacks. Ynet was unable to obtain an official response to the report from Arafat’s office. Regarding the PA statements, police to date have not established that Jews were involved in any recent attacks as claimed by the PA.
In other areas, terrorists fired at a security vehicle of the community of Tekoa on Thursday night. In the Shomron, terrorists fired at the communities of Elon Moreh and Chomesh. In Gaza, soldiers stationed near the Rafiach Crossing to Egypt were attacked with grenades. There were no casualties in the attacks.
Earlier in the day, bombs were detonated in the Shomron, one against a school bus. The driver of the bus was lightly wounded in that attack.
In response to the latest fatal attack, the Yesha Council released a statement calling for an immediate end to negotiations with the PA by Foreign Minister Shimon Peres. The council called upon Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to remind the foreign minister that former Prime Minister Ehud Barak was voted out of office in no small part because of his willingness to negotiate with the PA under fire.
Yesha officials are demanding a total cessation of all negotiations with Yasser Arafat and the PA, and an end to the government’s policy of restraint.
