Austria announced today that it would begin paying compensation to forced laborers from the Nazi period within a few days. Yesterday\'s U.S. Federal Court ruling against further suits against Austria on this matter has paved the way for the payments. Austria and the U.S. had come to an agreement that it would compensate the 150,000 forced laborers who survived World War II, while the U.S. committed itself in return to try to put an end to the legal suits being brought against Austria in American courts. Two suits that were holding up the agreement were rejected yesterday in a Federal Court in New York.
