IDF forces demolished between 10 and 35 abandoned houses - various numbers were reported - in Khan Yunis over the Yom Kippur holiday, in response to the killing of Tif'eret Tratner, 24, in Gush Katif on Yom Kippur Eve by a Palestinian-fired mortar shell. The buildings in Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza, were often used for the launching of rockets and shells.
An Israel Air Force helicopter fired at a group of four terrorists who were attempting to fire RPG shells at the Israeli forces; one terrorist was killed, and a second was hit as well. This morning, a helicopter fired at a building in which weapons are manufactured; two people were reported hurt.
Tif'eret Tratner was buried in a rushed but well-attended ceremony in Jerusalem shortly before the onset of the Yom Kippur holiday on Friday. She was the second Israeli to be killed in the barrage of more than 4,500 rockets and shells over the past four years in southern Gaza. A reserve soldier, Barak Madmon, was killed outside Kfar Darom in a mortar attack in Nov. 2001; Ariel Yered was a baby when he was seriously wounded in a mortar attack in the Gush Katif community of Atzmona in April 2001.
Tif'eret, the youngest of six children, is survived by her father, four sisters and one brother; her mother passed away ten years ago. One sister is the daughter-in-law of Tuvia Vizner, who was murdered during the Passover holiday in 2002 by terrorists who infiltrated Netzarim. Vizner, 79, and Michael Orlinsky, 70, were visiting their children and were on their way to holiday prayers in the local synagogue when a Palestinian terrorist who infiltrated the town stabbed them to death.
