At 3 PM (Israel time), it began: The Arutz-7 Hebrew language internet/television telethon on behalf of the charity-and-kindness organization Ezer Mizion. The unprecedented 30-hour event will be broadcast live on IsraelNationalNews/Arutz-7's Hebrew television site. Information on the telethon can be seen here on the English site as well.
Dudu Saada, the directing force behind the effort, explained what led up to it:
"About two years ago, Ezer Mizion turned to Arutz-7 and asked if we could arrange an evening of broadcasts for their bone marrow drives and medical programs including advice and transportation. Up until then, we had only held telethons for ourselves, that is, for Arutz-7 - but here we decided to make a switch and hold one for Ezer Mizion as well. We did it right before Yom Kippur, and last year as well. This year, without regular radio broadcasts, we decided that we could do it even more attractively by holding it on our internet television broadcasts."
Expected to take part will be Knesset Members and other public figures, musicians, and patients who have been helped by Ezer Mizion. "For two hours at a time," Saada said, "people like Mona Rosenblum and Adir Zik - a well-known Arutz-7 radio personality and commentator, who himself was helped by Ezer Mizion during his recent illness - will sit in the studio and 'anchor' the broadcast." He said that the goal is to raise three million shekels ($670,000) for the organization. Phone contributions can be made by dialing (02) 997-5555, or from outside Israel, (972-2) 997-5555.
