The site of Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem, a few hundred meters south of the Jerusalem municipal border, was filled with Jewish worshipers and prayer during the course of the three-day Rosh HaShanah/Shabbat holiday. Dozens of people prayed and even slept there, and many others walked to the site from Jerusalem. The prayer services were guarded by army and Border Guard forces, and passed without incident.

In the Machpelah Cave in Hevron, hundreds of residents and visitors in the City of the Patriarchs too part in several different prayer services held throughout the day. Three different "vatikin" [sunrise prayer] services were held.

As on every year, many thousands of people attended Rosh HaShanah services at the Western Wall in Jerusalem as well.
