The Doing Business Database of the World Bank provides objective measures of the ease of doing business in 145 economies. Examining the various countries' business regulations and their enforcement, the World Bank this year ranked Israel among the top 25 business environments in the world, according to the Globes financial newspaper.

The countries ranked at the top of the Doing Business 2005 list, released last week, were New Zealand, the United States and Singapore.

In the areas of starting a business, hiring and firing workers, and obtaining credit, entrepreneurs in Israel have it very easy compared to those in other regional states. In some cases, Israel is a more facilitating environment than countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

To make business life easier still, Israel will need to improve procedures for registering property, and the costs and procedures of contract enforcement, the Globes article detailed.
