MK Sha'ul Yahalom, one of the leading NRP proponents of fighting the disengagement "from within," told Arutz-7 last night, "Because we are still in the government, there is much agitation within the Likud... Our contribution is great; the Likud 'rebels' asked that we remain in the government and not quit." Yahalom said that there is no need for despair regarding the withdrawal from Gaza: "The Prime Minister is creating an atmosphere as if everything is finished, as if the residents have already been evacuated... This is his psychological warfare, which he is great at."

Yahalom was asked what he thinks party leader Effie Eitam - whose leadership he never supported very enthusiastically - will do if he loses tonight's vote. "What do you think, he will remain the party chairman?" Yahalom answered sarcastically. "Nevertheless, anything can happen; he could still surprise us."

Arutz-7's Yosef Meiri asked another Knesset Member of the NRP, Gila Finkelstein, this afternoon if she could accept the compromise offer proposed by Effie Eitam. She said that she and her colleagues are meeting throughout the day, and are continuously discussing these matters. "Keep in mind that the dispute is not an ideological one," she said. "We are all against this national and moral crime, and are totally opposed to the idea of giving over flowering parts of the Land of Israel to the Arabs who will simply turn it into desert once again. It is a nightmare just to think about all the world media filming the forced expulsion of Jews from their homes, and how the soldiers force wheelchair-bound Chana Bart from her home..."

It was reported today that ex-Chief Rabbi Avraham Shapira said, in a meeting with representatives of Professors for a Strong Israel, The Officers Forum for a Strong Israel, and others, that, "A governmental decision on any payment to residents for them to leave their homes, is [a signal] to leave the government immediately."
