MK Nissim Dehan (Shas) thwarted an attempted "grab" of five million shekels for the Evacuation Authority today. Budget Director Kobi Haber placed a request for this amount, in the name of Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, on the Knesset Finance Committee table today.
MK Dehan, upon noticing that this request was about to be voted on, immediately raised a cry, saying that no advance notice had been submitted for the unusual request and that the MKs knew nothing about it. As a result, the session was called off and no vote was held. It is possible that a vote will be held on the matter next week, however.
The Evacuation Authority, headed by Yonatan Bassi, is unable to operate at present, as it has not yet been funded. Its task is to pay compensation to the residents slated to be uprooted and help resettle them.
