Relief appears to be in sight, at long last, for at least some of the 7,000 religious council workers who have not been paid - some of them for more than a year. After two separate strikes of religious services in the past few weeks, and after a few additional days of "technical" delays, the promised monies are finally being transferred to the religious councils. Councils that have not submitted the required fiscal reports are not receiving the funds, however.
All in all, 61 million shekels have been transferred to cover the months of July and August - instead of 16 million. An additional three million shekels will be available for a special ministerial committee to use for "exceptional cases."
