Border Guard Chief Yaakov Ganot has called for the launching of a criminal investigation against Arab MK Ahmed Tibi. An internal Justice Ministry investigation found this week that it was Tibi who assaulted a Border Guard policeman four months ago - and not, as Tibi had claimed, that the policeman attacked him. Ganot\'s request was filed in the Jerusalem district headquarters of Israel Police.
The incident four months ago is merely the latest in a series of violent acts in which ex-Arafat-advisor (and current, according to this year\'s Palestinian Academic Society for the Study of International Affairs journal) MK Tibi has been involved. In 1987, the Jerusalem Post reported that Tibi was fired as a doctor in Hadassah Hospital after, according to a hospital spokesman, \"Tibi hit a security guard with his briefcase on the skull, and left him lying on the floor bleeding. He [the guard] needed several stitches.\" In addition, in February this year a Jerusalem court found that Tibi was not telling the truth when he accused three Kach activists of assaulting him. Only two weeks ago, a complaint was filed with the police by Yehuda Levinger of Ramat Shlomo, Jerusalem, charging that Tibi had punched him during a Knesset committee session.
