Efforts to convince President Moshe Katzav to pardon Margalit Har-Shefi have gone into high gear. Women in Green, together with friends and neighbors of Margalit, will hold protest vigils during the next three Monday mornings outside the President\'s house in Jerusalem. The vigils will be held from 10-11:30 AM. Petitions asking Katzav to pardon Margalit will soon be circulated on the internet and elsewhere. In the meanwhile, the President can be faxed at (+972-2) 561-1033.
Ex-GSS chief Carmi Gillon explained in his recently-published book why he did not reinforce security around Prime Minister Rabin, even though reports of threats to kill him had been received: \"We did not believe that a Jew would get up and kill the Prime Minister.\" Yet Margalit Har-Shefi is scheduled to begin a nine-month prison sentence on March 21 for not taking Yigal Amir seriously and stopping him when he said that Rabin should be killed.

Those who should really have stood trial for the failure to prevent the murder of the Prime Minister were those elements [in the GSS] who possessed full knowledge of Yigal Amir\'s statements, and nevertheless did nothing to confound his plans... The only way to prevent [Margalit\'s imprisonment] is through a presidential pardon.\"
