A 40-year-old Arab man from Shuafat - an Arab-populated neighborhood in northern Jerusalem - attempted to murder a Border Guard policeman in Jerusalem shortly before 10:00 this morning. The terrorist stabbed his victim on the eastern side of the capital's Highway #1, less than 300 yards north of the Old City. The policeman, though wounded in the neck and chest, was able to shoot his attacker four times before collapsing. The bullets killed the terrorist, who was then tested for poisonous materials by ZAKA volunteers, while Magen David Adom emergency medics treated the Border Guard policeman on the spot. His condition, initially listed as serious, was downgraded to moderate, and he was evacuated to a nearby hospital. (Photos by Ezra HaLevi)

Jerusalem police had placed the city under a high-level terror alert for two days, ending on Friday, after intelligence warnings of an impending attack were received. The alert was removed after the third of three terrorists who were apparently planning to strike were captured.

This afternoon, security officials declared an alert in the area of Highway 443, the Jerusalem-Modiin Highway, in response to credible intelligence community terror warnings. The information indicates that a number of terrorists are attempting to make their way towards the capital to carry out an attack.
