The trial-in-absentia of Nazi war criminal Alois Bruner began in Paris today. The assistant to Adolf Eichmann, he is accused of sending at least 130,000 Jews to their deaths; these included almost the entire Jewish populations of Vienna, Berlin, and Salonika. Bruner, 88, has been hiding in Syria for the past few decades.
