Whereas many Israelis go to the Far East following their military service, to take some time for themselves, eleven Israeli teens left today to remote villages in India in order to provide first aid, tutoring and health education to their peers in those villages.
The team is a part of an Israeli group called "Prichey Refua" (Youth Medical Cadets) which has already sent three youth delegations to India in the past couple of years.
The group has also sent 16 and 17 year olds from Israel to Guyana to help locals build infrastructure and provide medical assistance.
Pirchey Refua was established in 1994 in Petach Tikvah’s Beilinson Hospital and branches have since opened in more than 20 medical institutions across Israel. Through its training courses, Pirchey Refua has trained over 2,000 teenagers in emergency medical care.
