The IDF is trying out other approaches in its battle against Kassam rockets from Gaza. Yesterday, it advanced its forces to Jebalya in northern Gaza, to where Kassam cells had recently relocated much of their operations. Today, however, it backtracked somewhat, and thinned out some of its other forces from around the main Kassam-launching center, Beit Hanoun. It did this as part of an informal agreement with "moderate" Arab elements in northern Gaza to prevent the rocket attacks.
In addition to the military approach, the IDF is trying psychological warfare. It distributed in northern Gaza pamphlets and caricatures showing the dangers of Kassams to the Arab population itself. One cartoon shows a terrorist firing a Kassam - which ends up landing on an Arab house symbolizing "PA society." The message "Terrorism Will Kill You!" is written atop the picture.
Two Kassam rockets were fired today at the western Negev; they landed in open fields, and no one was hurt.
