Israel's national under-20 basketball team brought home the silver medal from the European league championships, which ended Sunday night.

In an impressive streak of wins, the Israeli team climbed steadily up the European Under-20 League roster. Beating some stiff competition along the way, the boys in blue-and-white eventually faced off against Slovenia on Sunday in the Czech Republic. The final score in what was a very close, roller coaster of a game between Israel and Slovenia on Sunday night, with Israel leading much of the time, was 66-61.

Ironically, in the last championships, in 2000, the Israeli U-20 team also just missed a gold medal, when they lost the final game to... Slovenia.

Thanks to their outstanding performance in the once-in-four-years European Championships, the young Israeli sportsmen will be participating in the World U-21 Basketball Championships, scheduled for August 5-14, 2005, in Argentina.
