The preparations for the "Human Chain" to be formed this Sunday on behalf of the people and land of Gush Katif has sparked some very welcome imitations. Land of Israel supporters around the world will hold their own chains on the same day. In New York, for instance, the event will be held outside the Israeli Consulate at 6 PM, at 2nd Ave. and 42nd St, while in London, supporters will join hands outside the Israeli Embassy. Jews and Christians abroad will take place in similar "Human Chains" in solidarity with Gush Katif in Australia, Canada and elsewhere in the U.S.

The original chain is expected to be formed by between 80,000 and 100,000 people, stretching from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to northern Gaza, this Sunday afternoon at 5 PM. They will show their solidarity with nearly 8,000 Jews of Gush Katif, as well as some 500 in northern Shomron, who are threatened by Prime Minister Sharon with expulsion from their homes and lands. The chain will be formed only 27 hours before the onset of Tisha B'Av, the day on which the Jewish People mourns the destruction of its First and Second Temples and its expulsion from the Holy Land. "The human chain will be a living testament," say the organizers, "to the Jewish people's determination to prevent the repetition of destruction and expulsion, and to prevent the encouragement of terrorism by rewarding terrorists with Jewish holy land."
