Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom (Likud) said that anarchy in the PA is not good for Israel, as "we don't want to see the Palestinian Authority collapse; we want moderate forces to take control. As long as Arafat rules, the anarchy continues."

Education Minister Limor Livnat (Likud): "Some will say that this is a sign that we should rush up the disengagement, but I say the opposite: we have to be more cautious."

Health Minister Danny Naveh (Likud) said today that the events of the past few days provide Israel with a fine chance to rid itself of Yasser Arafat, and that no one in the Palestinian Authority would regret his departure.

The appointment of Infrastructures Minister Modi Zandberg (Shinui) to this new ministerial position was approved in the Cabinet today, while his party colleague MK Ilan Shalgi took Zandberg's place as Science Minister. The two appointments must still be confirmed in the Knesset. Zandberg said that the chaos in the PA could likely be the beginning of a rebellion against Arafat, "which may actually mark the possible beginning of a real peace process." Zandberg replaces Yosef Paritzky, who was fired last week after he was heard planning to frame his party colleague Avraham Poraz.
