"Israel sees great importance in the involvement of the international community in the economic and civil spheres in the Palestinian Authority after the IDF withdrawal from the Gaza Strip," the Prime Minister said.
Mr. Sharon emphasized that "the discussions with the international community regarding the withdrawal plan will focus solely on the economic and civil aspects, without any mention of security matters, and will be held with a forum of the donor nations."
In attendance at the meeting were Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, National Security Council head Giora Eiland, as well as representatives of the Finance Ministry, the Defense Ministry, the military and other relevant offices.
Adopting the guidelines of the National Security Council regarding international involvement in Gaza, Prime Minister Sharon appointed Eiland and the Deputy Financial Director of the Foreign Ministry to head up the negotiating team that will meet with international representatives. Their team, Mr. Sharon declared, will be the sole one authorized to negotiate on the matters discussed.
On Thursday, Foreign Minister Shalom met representatives of the donor nations in what the Prime Minister's Office is calling the "first step" in a dialogue with the international community regarding the "disengagement" plan.
