Political commentator Nechama Douek said that the Shinui party will be able to claim that it dealt with this problem with alacrity, but will no longer be able to say that it is free of corruption. "In addition," she told Arutz-7 today, "in its haste to rid itself of the stain, it didn't use soap, but rather something closer to acid, which might end up burning its own fingertips as well." She said that it is now possible that Paritzky himself, in response, might "tattle" on other corruption in Shinui. Douek said that the immediate victor from the developments is the Meretz party, which competes with Shinui for the left-wing secular vote. She further said that all indications are that Deputy Minister Victor Breilovsky of Shinui will become the Minister of Infrastructures in Paritzky's place.
She did not count on Breilovsky's turning down the job, however. Breilovsky said he would prefer to remain in his current post, and instead, Science Minister Modi Zandberg will assume the Infrastructures Ministry post. MK Ilan Shalgi will become Science Minister, and his position as head of the Knesset Education Committee will be assumed by MK Molly Polishuk-Block.
Shas MK Nissim Ze'ev told Arutz-7, "Shinui has spent years talking about integrity and the like, and here we see that they themselves are contaminated with the very sin they railed against. I don't think that what Lapid has been doing for years against the religious public is any less severe than what Paritzky did. This most recent thing has revealed the party's true face, one of evil and malice and doing whatever you want to liquidate your enemy, etc." Ze'ev emphasized that he admired Paritzky's work as a minister.
Likud MK Moshe Kachlon called upon Prime Minister Sharon this morning to include the Shas party in the coalition. "Shinui has now forfeited the right to disqualify another party for matters of personal honesty and the like," Kachlon said.
MK Sha'ul Yahalom (NRP) said that the story raises worrisome concerns about special-interest groups, such as the Electric Company's workers' union, and the way in which they hire private investigators to try to frame public officials.
