Four people were wounded in two serious Palestinian attacks in Gush Katif last night and today. In the first incident, two mortar shells were fired at N'vei Dekalim, the largest Jewish community in Gush Katif. Both shells landed and exploded inside the town, injuring one resident. He returned home from the hospital today.
This morning, three Israeli soldiers were lightly wounded from shrapnel during an encounter with Palestinian terrorists along the Kisufim Route in Gush Katif. The incident began at 10:45 AM when two terrorists began firing bullets and hurling grenades at cars driving along the road. An IDF force in the area opened fire and killed both attackers. The three soldiers were lightly wounded when one of the grenades exploded near them. Sources in the area say that the terrorists operated from roadside buildings that the army has asked to demolish - a request that the Supreme Court has turned down.
In other attacks, an IDF post near Moshav Katif was fired upon last night, a bomb was found and safely neutralized near Rafiach, and a Kassam rocket shot at a Jewish target fell short of its mark and exploded on an Arab house.
Terror victim Ruthie Zahavi, who was very seriously wounded in a Kassam rocket attack in Sderot last week, has awoken from her coma and is now listed in moderate condition. However, she immediately asked for her 3-year-old son Afik, and social workers were forced to tell her that her son had been killed in the attack. Doctors at the Soroka Medical Center hope to transfer her from intensive care to an orthopedic unit. One of her legs was amputated as a result of the Kassam attack.
