Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz visited Gaza yesterday, to monitor from up close the military operations being taken to try and prevent further Kassam rocket attacks on Sderot and environs. In a statement reminiscent of those often heard at the beginning of the Oslo process ten years ago, Mofaz said, "The IDF, GSS, Border Guard and Israel Police are sufficiently strong and clever to provide a response to terrorism even after the disengagement. I anticipate that the level of terrorism will drop after the disengagement and after pragmatic Arab forces take control."

In other security activity since last night, a terror cell was detected last night on its way to place a bomb designed to explode amidst the soldiers engaged in anti-Kassam military activity in Beit Hanoun. An IDF helicopter fired a missile at the terrorists, reportedly wounding six.

An army force discovered another arms-smuggling tunnel leading from Egypt to PA-controlled Gaza this morning. The tunnel opened into an abandoned store in Rafiach, the city that is split down the middle between Egypt and Gaza, and descended four meters deep into the ground. Arabs fired several anti-tank rockets at the Israelis during the operation; no casualties were reported. The army has found and destroyed close to 20 such tunnels since the beginning of the year. Israeli officials have long accused Egypt of turning a blind eye to the smuggling activity taking place literally under their noses.
