IDF forces killed five Palestinian terrorists last night who were advancing towards the community of Netzarim in Gaza, and took three other terrorists into custody. A very large gathering of some 1,000 youth - 22 busloads from all over the country - was taking place in Netzarim at the time. "The alertness of IDF soldiers," reported the Gush Katif website katif.net, "prevented a heavy tragedy that could have occurred had the terrorists succeeded in infiltrating the community. Thank G-d, the residents and many guests in town were not hurt."
The youths were taking part, for the fourth year in a row, in an annual get-together in Netzarim, completely organized and arranged by the youth of Netzarim. Buses from all over the country brought high school students to take part in a day of doing - painting signs, decorating the community, working in greenhouses, and the like - as well as for groups of study and discussion. MK Effie Eitam (NRP) was delayed for a long while at the Netzarim junction because of the clash with the terrorists, and delivered his inspirational speech by telephone to the 1,000-strong listening audience.
