Set to begin tomorrow and last through mid-August, the International Solidarity Movement is planning what they are calling "Freedom Summer Palestine 2004", which they announced is "conceived to be [a] 56-day campaign (one day for every year of displacement and dispossession) against occupation, whereby Palestinians mobilizing with the participation and support of their international supporters, will draw the attention of the world to the true nature of the situation on the ground in the Occupied Palestinian Territories...."
While the lands of Judea, Samaria and Gaza came under Israeli rule in 1967, the State of Israel itself has been in existence for 56 years - and it is to that existence the ISM campaign material refers as "displacement and dispossession".
"We salute the members of the International Solidarity Movement who are standing with the Palestinians in their daily struggle against the construction of the racist separation wall," the terrorist Hamas organization announced this week, according to a report on the NFC news and views website.
The ISM, whose members have repeatedly interfered with IDF counterterrorism operations, denied all connection with the Hamas, saying, "We support non-violent resistance." On its website, however, the ISM proclaims: "We recognize the Palestinian right to resist Israeli violence and occupation via legitimate armed struggle." In their promotional material for "Freedom Summer", the Movement says its members and local Arabs will "take direct action against occupation forces," as well as send "groups of internationals to the various regions to join in local resistance activities."
