Jerusalem Police officials arrived at Orient House this morning with papers signed by Public Security Minister Uzi Landau forbidding the PA to hold a massive memorial ceremony there for Feisal Husseini. Tens of thousands of people had been expected for the event today, including several leading PA officials. Outside Orient House, Palestinian headquarters in Jerusalem, police scuffled with Arabs protesting the ban. Many policemen remained stationed nearby, tensely preparing to enforce the ban this evening.

Landau forbade the event because its organizer, the Palestinian Authority, is not allowed to operate in Jerusalem, and because of the nationalist/bellicose nature of the event, as manifest during Husseini\'s funeral 47 days ago. Meretz MKs Yossi Sarid and Ran Cohen condemned the decision not to allow the Husseini memorial ceremony.

GSS head Avi Dichter informed the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee today that if Tanzim head Marwan Bargouti attempts to enter Israel for the event, he would be immediately arrested for his role in the many murderous Tanzim attacks. Deputy Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra said today that MKs, diplomats, and the like would be allowed to participate, and in fact, Arab MK Mohammad Barakeh announced that he and his colleagues plan to do so. Left-wing activists submitted a last-minute petition to the Supreme Court, demanding that the ban be rescinded.
