The Yesha Council of Judea, Samaria and Gaza Communities issued an announcement today warning that the army and police are poised to carry out the dismantling of Givat HaRoeh in the course of the coming day. The residents say that they are totally legal, and turned to the Supreme Court. The Court issued a restraining order, barring the evacuation for the next 24 hours.
Givat HaRoeh, a bona-fide neighborhood of the large Shomron town of Eli, boasts 18 families, and is situated on the western side of the Jerusalem-Tapuach highway.
The site was most recently slated for destruction a month ago, but the plans were put on hold. A new synagogue was dedicated at the site just three months ago, and new roads to the neighborhood have been paved in the past year. Hundreds or even thousands of people are expected to arrive at the town if an attempt to destroy it appears imminent.
