Likud MK Michael Eitan called this week upon Prime Minister Sharon to include the hareidi parties in his government. This would preclude the need to consider the possibility of having Labor joining the coalition. It was reported today that Sharon was in fact in contact with the hareidi parties, trying to secure their support from outside the coalition.

Shinui Party MK Yigal Yasinov told Voice of Israel Radio this week that his party would never sit with hareidim in the coalition, "not today and not ever." When asked if he did not feel his position was racist, the MK explained that hareidim "just worry about money for yeshivot and their institutions and are involved in graft and illegal activities" and that therefore his position is justified.

Later in the week, MK Yasinov said that he is working to establish a non-kosher restaurant inside the Knesset or government complex. He says that he and others have the right to be served pork and other non-kosher food. Yasinov said that he would poll his fellow Knesset Members on the issue, and would not force his view against the majority will.
